About Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara
Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara came to be established on 10th September, 1995 as a result of the zeal and tireless endeavour of some great minds of the locality under the leadership of Late Chandan Kumar Sarkar and with the wholehearted support of the local people. The foundation stone of the college was laid by the then Honourable Chief Minister of Assam, Late Hiteswar Saikia.
The college has been named after the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Late Chandan Kumar Sarkar was the guiding force behind the establishment of the college at Chalantapara, leading with educationists and eminent personalities of the locality.

Late Mohiruddin Mazumdar, Late Bakhtar Hussain, Late Thaneswar Das, Late Kutubuddin Ahmed, Late Sudhir Kumar Das, Md. Aminul Islam, Late Abdul Hussain, Sri Monen Medhi, Abdul Malek, Motiur Rahman, Ismail Hussain and many other respected personalities of the locality were associated with the institution.
It has been a fruitful but arduous journey for Mahatma Gandhi College over the years.
