Mahatma Gandhi college is established on the 10th September, 1995.The College is affiliated to the Gauhati university and located at Chalantapara part-||,P.O- Chalantapara P.S- Jogighopa in the district of Bongaigaon (Assam).The Premier institution on Higher Education has been established in the memory of our beloved leader Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as mark of respect to his ideology. The College is Committed to maintain discipline strictly in the campus under the authority of the Principal.
The Department of Assamese is introduced in the College from 1996 session and the Major course of Assamese Department has been introduced in 2003 and providing a quality education in the field of Assamese Literature and Language.

Rabha Divas Celebration in the memory of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha conducted at mahatma Gandhi College, chalantapara organized by Dept.of Assamese on 20/06/2026. The Principal, Academic in-charge, IQAC Coordinator have delivered their valuable speech on the theme of the programme. The maximum numbers of student have participated in the programme.
One Day Workshop on Poem Recitation organized by Dept.of Assamese in collaboration with IQAC Cell, Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara. The Resource Person Hon'ble Srijut Radhika Mahan Das has enhanced the beauty of the programme. The students along with all faculty members of the college have participated in the workshop.
Celebration of Rongali Bihu organized by Dept. of Assamese of Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara on 18/04/2026. The students of the College have participated at Bihu dance and created amazing atmosphere in the College.
