About the Department

Mahatma Gandhi College was established on 10th September,1995 at Chalantapara in the district of Bongaigaon (Assam) and it was affiliated with under Gauhati University.The department of history was formally introduced in 1996 to provide quality education in B.A. General courses under Gauhati University.It is one of the prime department of college right from the establishment. Presently the department offers General course under the present updated CBCS (NEP2020) framework of FyUGP under Gauhati University.The department currently operates with three Assistant professors, Aynal Hoque, Jahangir Alom and Jahan Uddin Ahmed. It is a student centric department that focuses academic development along with the all round development of the students.The department of History regularly organises its departmental seminar , Teacher -students meet, Tutorial class, organised departmental educational Tours and outing. The department maintains a library with over 100 books primarily built through general donations from faculty members, alumni and well wishers which were provided students to read.
