About the Department

The Department of Economics of Mahatma Gandhi College,Chalantapara was established in the year 1995.It is one of the prime department of the college right from the establishment.The department offers Economics as a UG course in regular mode and PG course in distance and open learning mode through KKHOU. Presently, the department offers General courses under the present updated CBCS(NEP-2020) framework of BA under Gauhati University. Now the department is running smoothly with three Assistant Professors. It is a student centric department that focuses academic development and the all round development of the students.The Department of Economics regularly organises its departmental seminars,Teachers-Students meet,organises departmental educational tours and outings.

The vision of the department is to empower the students with human values to becometechnically proficient,innovative,responsible global citizens and to provide a platform to the students to exhibit their talent and creativity.
MISSION:
To create the awareness among the students of the department about the world economy,Indian economy,the Assam economy and use of statistical tools in economics.Even,it has been to discuss about the current issues and provide relevant up-to-date,career-oriented and job-oriented aspects and diverse socio-economic fields.
