Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara is established on the 10th September, 1995.The college is affiliated to the Gauhati University and located at Chalantapara P.O- Chalantapara P.S- Jogighopa in the district of Bongigaon (Assam). This Premier institution on Higher education has been established in the memory of our beloved leader Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as mark of respect to his ideology. The college is committed to maintain discipline strictly in the campus under the supervision of the Principal.
The Department of Political science is introduced in the college from 1996-97 session and the Major course of Political science Department has been introduced in 2003 and providing a quality education in the field of Political science.

National Constitution Day-2025 has been observed at Mahatma Gandhi College, Chalantapara organized by Department of Political Science in collaboration with Distrit Legal Services Authority, Bongaigaon. Students actively participated in the interactive Session and expressed their views on the relevance of the constitutional values in the contemporary society.
The seminar aimed to encourage critial thinking, promote academic discussion, and enhance students knowledge of democratic values and voting behaviour. The good number of students have done their paper presentation on the topic and delivered their speeches. The faculty members and IQAC Coordinator of the college have delivered their speeches on the topic in details.The chairperson also delivered his speech on the topic mentioning the significance of constitutional values, secularism and responsible citizenship.
The students aompanied by faculty members,visited Laitlum and observed its natural landscape ,local settlements, and tourism facilities . They interacted with local residents to understand their lifestyle, livelyhood and impact of tourism on the local economy.Discussions were held on issues related to rural developments , environmental conservation and the role of government in promoting sustainable tourism.
