Char Anchalar masmoriya Sakolor Utsav Parbon aru Geet-Mat: Eti Adhyayan(Abibhakta Goalpara Zilar Bisesh Adhyayan saha) 02 Nov 2017

Doctor of Philosophy, Adhunik Bharatiya Bhasha Bibhag,Gauhati University: Festivals represent joy, unity, and the cultural identity of a society. The fishing communities living in the char areas of Assam form an important part of the state’s social and cultural life. Their festivals, songs, customs, and traditions reflect a rich cultural heritage. This study, titled “Festivals and Folk Songs of the Fishing Communities of the Char Areas: A Study with Special Reference to Undivided Goalpara District,” examines these cultural practices in detail. The undivided Goalpara district, historically known as Ratnapith, includes present-day Goalpara, Dhubri, and Bongaigaon districts. The fertile char regions formed by the Brahmaputra River are inhabited by both Hindu and Muslim communities. The vibrant folk culture, festivals, and musical traditions of these communities greatly attract cultural researchers and scholars.

Goalparar Char Anchalor Masmoriya Sakolor Sanskriti: Ek samikshatmak Adhyayan 23 Nov 2007

Master of Philosophy(M.Phil), Adhunik Bharatiya Bhasha Bibhag Gauhati University: This study focuses on the culture of the fishing communities living in the char areas of Goalpara district, Assam. Goalpara is culturally rich and known for its diverse communities, languages, and traditions. The char regions formed by the Brahmaputra River are mainly inhabited by Muslim, Namashudra, and Jhalo-Malo communities, many of whom depend on fishing for their livelihood. Although several writings exist on char areas, systematic research on the culture of these fishing communities is limited. Therefore, this study attempts to present an analytical discussion of their lifestyle, customs, traditions, and socio-cultural practices through field study and references from books, articles, and other sources.
